A Christmas Discovery

A few months ago I found a website dedicated to restoring and sharing classical music albums and performances no longer available commercially. This led me to a site featuring 10" lps hosted by "Buster". His eclectic tastes provided many interesting additions to my collection, from Ella Mae Morse to Paul Robeson. Today, he mentioned the Captain's site, a truly serendipitous assortment of Christmas music.

I played his YOUTUBE copy of a Bing Crosby telecast in the early 50's featuring guests from his "Hogan's Heroes" series. Being Jewish, but raised in an Irish neighborhood in north Philly, I was reminded of all the hymns and carols I sang with my buddies at Christmas. Werner Klemperer, son of the great conductor, Otto, proved that talent is not always passed on.

The site reminded me of a few favorites, long-lost, but not forgotten--the Buffalo Bills in a "Barbershop Christmas" and a tearjerker I once heard on WWVA on a trip to Wheeling--"Will Santa Come to Shantytown This Christmas"

Our personal favorite at home in Camden ME, is Aaron Neville's "Soulful Christmas".

It's my first blog, the product of one finger and a fevered brain.
